Mwagale Foundation was honored to be part of the Student Christian Movement (SCM) conference for tertiary institutions in Nigeria, held at the University of Ibadan. This conference provided a platform for the foundation to present on the pressing issue of human trafficking, engaging with students and faculty to raise awareness and discuss solutions. In addition to the SCM conference, the foundation also participated in the Women Leaders Conference. This event was another opportunity to highlight the severe impact of human trafficking on women and discuss potential interventions. The audience was receptive, and the presentations spurred meaningful discussions and reflections. Mwagale also conducted numerous interviews with individuals and organizations to gain a deeper understanding of the local context of human trafficking. One of the most memorable interactions was with Mrs. White, the programs coordinator at the Shunamite Foundation for Women and Children. Mrs. White is a survivor of a particularly brutal form of trafficking involving abduction and ransom demands. Her story of resilience and survival was both harrowing and inspiring, and it underscored the urgency of our mission. The foundation also also engaged in creative advocacy through arts. After conducting research and consulting experts at the Shunamite Foundation, Mwagale wrote, trained, and performed a play depicting one of the highest forms of internal trafficking in Nigeria. The performance was well-received and highlighted the power of storytelling in raising awareness and fostering empathy. Our efforts in Ibadan were further supported by Sister Philomena, who has extensive experience working in Edo State. Her connections and guidance were invaluable, facilitating a successful continuation of our work in the region.
