Commemorating #WorldDayAgainstTraffickingInPersons: A Call for Unity, Resilience, and Survivor Leadership

Uganda, today, 30th July 2025, joined the global community to observe the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons. The event, orchestrated by the Coordination Office for the Prevention of Trafficking in Persons (COPTIP) under the Ministry of Internal Affairs, was a strong display of solidarity.

The day commenced with a symbolic walk from the National Theatre to Mestil Hotel in Nsambya, uniting dedicated partners such as the Uganda Coalition Against Trafficking in Persons (UCATIP), GIZ Uganda, British Council, @Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), The Salvation Army, IOM – UN Migration Human Trafficking Institute, and various organizations committed to combating human trafficking.

Hon. Gen. David Muhoozi, State Minister for Internal Affairs, serving as the Guest of Honor, delivered a compelling message underscoring the imperative for collective action. He emphasized the need for enhanced support for victims, intensified efforts by law enforcement to apprehend trafficking syndicates, and the crucial role of unity and resilience in the anti-trafficking campaign.

Mwagale Foundation proudly engaged in this national event, advocating for survivor-led initiatives that harness the transformative influence of lived experiences. CEONdagire Joanita emphasized the significance of elevating survivor voices to the forefront of the fight against trafficking, stressing the pivotal role survivors play as leaders, experts, and catalysts for change.

As we reflect on this year’s commemoration, it serves as a strong reminder that eradicating trafficking demands collective action, consistency, and an unwavering dedication to justice and dignity for all affected individuals. Together, let’s empower survivors, foster unity, and champion a future free from the scourge of human trafficking.
