Mwagale Foundation and Footprint to Freedom Unite in Iganga to Raise Awareness Against Human Trafficking
In a powerful collaboration, Mwagale Foundation partnered with Footprint to Freedom to host an impactful anti-human trafficking awareness event at Bugabwe Primary School in Iganga District. The initiative aimed to underscore the collective responsibility needed to combat human trafficking, with a strong focus on education and community involvement.
The event featured thought-provoking discussions led by Ndagire Joanita, CEO of Mwagale Foundation, and Shibella Joshirah, who delved into the root causes of trafficking, including poverty, social pressures, and lack of access to education. They also explored the deep emotional and psychological scars left on victims.

Nyadoi Philister provided practical strategies for risk identification, prevention, and victim support emphasizing the need for students to speak out and form anti-trafficking clubs in schools. Kusiima Miriam, a survivor leader, gave a heartfelt account of her experiences, distinguishing the various forms of human trafficking, especially child exploitation.
Nalwoga Stecy added a data-driven perspective, highlighting alarming statistics and exposing the realities of child labor, sexual exploitation, and forced servitude.
Timed to coincide with the upcoming UN World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, the session also included a moving performance by the Footprint Kids Club, titled “We Are Not For Sale”, which called on the community to protect every child from exploitation.
The event’s key takeaways reinforced the importance of survivor-led advocacy, community education, child empowerment, and unified action in building safer, more resilient communities.
As the global day of recognition approaches, Mwagale Foundation remains steadfast in its mission to raise awareness, empower survivors, and work alongside partners like Footprint to Freedom in the fight to end human trafficking.
